Lo-Fi Orchestra – The Carol of the Bells

This is my Lo-Fi Orchestra performance of the Carol of the Bells, heavily based on Robert Buckley's amazingly rhapsodic arrangement of the carol entitled "Let the Bells Ring". Listen out for the Adafruit Feather on glock and MiniDexed on Tubular Bells. Full details of the rebuild process can be found here: The New Lo-Fi Orchestra Explainer. … Continue reading Lo-Fi Orchestra – The Carol of the Bells

MiniDexed TX816 – Part 7 – In use!

Now that my MiniDexed TX816 seems largely usable (for me at least), this is the last part in the series for the time being and is simply a short demonstration of the module in use! Here is an 80s style FM synth version of Jupiter from Holst's Planets Suite. Previous posts in this series: Part … Continue reading MiniDexed TX816 – Part 7 – In use!

Lo-Fi Orchestra – The Flight of the Bumblebee

This is the second of my additional new Lo-Fi Orchestra performances.  This is Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee from his opera "The Tale of Tsar Saltan". Listen out for the "flute" (R2R DAC) with the short chord accompaniment in the strings. Full details of the rebuild process can be found here: The New Lo-Fi Orchestra Explainer. … Continue reading Lo-Fi Orchestra – The Flight of the Bumblebee

The New Lo-Fi Orchestra and The 1812 Overture

In celebration of my 400th post on my blog, I've just finished rebuilding the Lo-Fi Orchestra. And seeing as for my 100th post, I presented the finale for Tchaikovsky's Solemn Overture, 1812, in honour of my 400th post and for the inaugural performance of the new orchestra, I thought it was about time I did … Continue reading The New Lo-Fi Orchestra and The 1812 Overture

Lo-Fi Orchestra – Fanfare for the Common Man

Here is another piece for my Arduino tones- Aaron Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man.  This is scored for four horns, three trumpets, three trombones, tuba, timpani, bass drum and tam-tam. The Arduino tones provide the brass.  The VS1053 provides the timpani and bass drum, but the tam-tam was a bit problematic.  Eventually I decided … Continue reading Lo-Fi Orchestra – Fanfare for the Common Man

Lo-Fi Orchestra – Janacek Sinfonietta

I've been thinking about other things I could play on my Arduino tones and they seem particularly suited to fanfares, so here is the opening movement of Janacek's Sinfonietta. For details of the projects used in this performance: Arduino Tone One Year On! The Complete Lo-Fi Planets

Inspired by the legendary Tomita, the Lo-Fi Orchestra presentation of Gustav Holst's Planets Suite is now complete. The original Lo-Fi Orchestra project started off as an attempt to bring a range of my "Simple DIY Electronic Music Projects" together to "perform" a single piece.  After a number of initial performances, I decided to take the … Continue reading The Complete Lo-Fi Planets
